Our Story:
The Experts in Goat Milk Formula

From Idea to Trusted Baby Formula

When I first became involved in Nannycare, I had no idea it would lead to helping change UK and EU regulations. But it did — and the reason is simple: I believed parents deserved more choice when it came to baby formula.

For years, goat milk formula wasn’t allowed to be sold in the UK or Europe, even though it had been used safely in other parts of the world. Goat milk wasn’t legally recognised as a base for formula here — and cow’s milk formula had become the default, perhaps simply because cow’s milk was so widely available and dominated the dairy industry. There was no regulated alternative, and I felt that needed to change.

I didn’t come from the formula industry. I had to learn it all from the ground up. But I did have a background in business — and a passion for doing what felt right.

Why Goat Milk? The Key Differences

Goat milk has been used for generations around the world. It has a naturally different structure to cow’s milk — including softer curds, smaller fat globules, and naturally occurring oligosaccharides (a type of prebiotic). Despite its potential, goat milk wasn’t legally recognised in the
UK or EU as a suitable base for formula.

That meant parents who might have wanted to try goat milk had no approved, regulated formula option. We didn’t think that was right — and set out to change it.

The clinical trial that changed baby milk in the UK

We partnered closely with the Dairy Goat Co-operative in New Zealand — the global experts in goat milk and the pioneers of the world’s first goat milk baby formula back in the 1980s. We worked with leading scientists and paediatricians to carry out a rigorous clinical trial using the Nannycare
formula.

The study, published in a respected UK medical journal, showed that goat milk formula could support normal growth and development — just like cow’s milk formula. That evidence was submitted to the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), and became the foundation for a major regulatory review.

It didn’t happen overnight. In fact, it took more than 15 years of persistence. But eventually, the law changed — and for the first time, parents in the UK and EU could choose a goat milk-based baby formula that met all nutritional and safety standards.

We’re proud that Nannycare was the brand that made that possible.

Without our pioneering work, goat milk formulas
wouldn't even be available in the UK today!

30+ Years of Expertise in Baby Formula

Today, Nannycare is still a family-run British business, closely partnered with the Dairy Goat Co-operative in New Zealand. Why New Zealand? Because they are simply the best when it comes to goat milk and goat milk formula. They lead the world in their understanding and research in this area. I’m personally passionate about their expertise and approach to formula — and wouldn’t partner with anyone else.

Everything is done in-house, including producing the high-quality goat milk that the formulas are based on. Their goats are specially selected and carefully nurtured to produce the very best milk, specifically suited for baby formula.

A shared commitment to sustainability

Some people might wonder about the New Zealand connection and whether that raises concerns about sustainability — but there’s no need to worry. We all care deeply about this.

The Dairy Goat Co-operative holds an EcoVadis sustainability bronze rating, placing them in the top 19% of dairy farms globally, and Nannycare is proudly ClimatePartner certified. It’s all part of our ongoing effort to do better — for babies, and for the planet they’ll grow up in.

What it’s all for

All of this happened because we believed parents deserved a real, regulated alternative to cow’s milk formula. That’s what Nannycare helped create.

I know how overwhelming feeding decisions can be. There’s no one right way — only what’s right for you and your baby. But I hope that by sharing our story, more parents feel reassured that, when it comes to formula, they do have options — and it isn’t all about cow’s milk formula. And that behind the Nannycare brand, there are real people who genuinely care.
