We know there has been a lot of worrying news recently about baby formula recalls. When it comes to feeding your baby, even small uncertainties can feel unsettling, and it’s completely natural to want clear answers.
We wanted to share some reassurance and explain how we protect the safety and quality of Nannycare formula.
Is Nannycare affected by the recent recalls?
No, Nannycare is not affected by the current formula recalls.
The recalls reported elsewhere relate to a specific ingredient supplied by a third party. We do not use the supplier linked to this issue, and our manufacturing partner has confirmed that our supply chain is unaffected.
What was the issue behind the recalls?
The recalls relate to a toxin linked to a bacterium called Bacillus cereus.
This bacterium is widely present in the natural environment and is something the baby formula industry is very aware of. In rare circumstances, certain strains can produce a toxin, which is why it’s important for manufacturers to actively manage and monitor this risk.
How is this risk managed?
There isn’t a single, fixed rule that says exactly how this type of risk must be tested for. Instead, manufacturers are expected to use robust food safety systems that identify and manage potential issues throughout the manufacturing process.
At Nannycare, through our manufacturing partner in New Zealand, we take a thorough and precautionary approach, with multiple layers of checks rather than relying on a single test at the end.
What does that mean in practice?
In simple terms, it means checks happen at several points, not just once.
- Ingredients are checked before they’re used, to help ensure potential issues are identified early.
- Further testing takes place during production, at key stages where quality and safety are closely monitored.
- Every finished batch is tested before release, and only product that meets all safety and quality standards is approved for sale.
This layered approach is designed to spot potential problems as early as possible, long before a product could ever reach parents or babies.
Why take this approach?
When it comes to babies, we believe safety shouldn’t be about doing the minimum required. It should be about doing things carefully and responsibly.
By building checks in throughout the process, the aim is to prevent issues from progressing and to reduce the need for reactive measures such as recalls.
This is why, based on our controls and testing, no precautionary recall has been necessary for Nannycare products.
